Hales Chapel Christian Church located in the Gray Community of Johnson City, Tennessee has been in existence since 1887. This year marks our 127th year of existence in the Gray community and we will be celebrating that event at our annual homecoming in November. This year also marks the retirement of our Senior Minister, Lamar Garrison, who has ministered to our congregation for five years. He has announced his intentions to retire effective June 1, 2014. Our church has been a large congregation with 400+ in attendance and the necessity to conduct multiple worship and Sunday school services. Our sanctuary will comfortably accommodate 400 people. In 2001, our congregation helped establish a sister church in the area and we became immediately a smaller, more traditional worship style congregation with about 75-100+ in attendance each Lord’s Day. Hales Chapel Christian Church is led by shepherding Elders and assisted in multiple ministry teams such as Education/Children & Youth, Worship/Membership, Missions/Outreach, Building & Grounds, and Administration which provides a part time secretary for assisting the minister. Additionally, there are serving deacons, accomplished pianist and an organist. Our community is a thriving and growing rural area nestled in the Tri-Cities between Johnson City, Kingsport, and Bristol. Our congregation is a loving group and has cherished their time with Brother Garrison and his wife, Phoebe-Jo. We support him in the decision to retire from full time Christian service. At the same time, we eagerly look forward to the prospects of bringing a new Senior Minister to our congregation to serve and be served. Our time frame for hiring a new minister is flexible but it is our desire to have someone identified, relocated, and able to start no later than the summer of 2014. Should the new minister need to relocate earlier due to any number of reasons, such as children needing to start school in August or a spouse needing to begin a new career, our employment date to begin is flexible and can be adjusted to fit most any situation. A parsonage with four bedrooms, two full size bathrooms, and other amenities adjacent to the church is available and has accommodated previous families up to six people. However, if a new minister chooses not to reside in the parsonage will be acceptable and alternative uses made of the building. There are ample housing possibilities available in the Gray community.
