Seeking a full-time Discipleship Minister. The primary responsibility will be ministry with adults, working closely with the Senior Minister in this shared area of interest. The Discipleship Minister will work with a multi-staff team to help plan and execute the larger ministry of our church. We are a church averaging 550 people, with three Sunday morning services. We have programming for adults, youth, and children on Sunday mornings, Sunday evenings, and Wednesday evenings. To find out more about us visit our website at firstchurchnc.net.

 

Areas of responsibility and oversight

 

1.   Assimilation and Involvement

 

Visitors

  • Oversee greeting and hospitality ministry
  • See that visitors are properly welcomed, assisted with information and questions, and their children taken to proper locations
  • Ensure contact information is gathered, recorded, and disseminated
  • Follow-up with visitors, and set up others to make contact as appropriate (Senior Minister, Youth and Children Ministers, Elders, etc.)
  • Monitor attendance, and watch for occasions to move individuals to their next step
  • Set up introduction meetings (“101 classes”) throughout the year

 

Evangelism

  • Work with the other ministers to move people attending First Church to put their faith in Christ and be baptized
  • Follow up baptisms with encouragement and resources for their next steps in spiritual growth and involvement
  • Lead our evangelistic efforts to reach people outside First Church

 

Church Membership

  • Work with the Senior Minister to move immersed believers attending First Church to place their membership
  • Ensure contact information is updated and disseminated
  • Follow up with new members for their next steps in spiritual growth, service, and involvement

 

Participation and Growth

  • Work with the Senior Minister and Elders to oversee the adults attending First Church
  • Seek ways to motivate adults to move to the next step in their spiritual growth, service, and involvement
  • Watch for adults whose attendance drops, notify Elders and Ministers, and see that an appropriate person is making contact

 

Young Adults

  • Work with the younger ministers to give special attention to the young adults (20’s, 30’s, and 40’s) attending First Church
  • Develop ways to involve them in fellowship, spiritual growth, and service 

 

2.   Ministry Outreach

  • Oversee our current programs that address needs in our community (Manna Food Ministry, benevolence, etc.)
  • Create new ways First Church can reach out and impact our community

 

3.   Ministry Programs

  • Oversee our various Ministry Teams with the Senior Minister
  • Serve as a liaison between the Ministry Teams and the Elders and Staff
  • Seek ways to help each Ministry Team grow and improve

 

4.   Adult Education

  • Work with the Senior Minister to oversee Adult Education
  • Assist teachers of adult classes with their needs (curriculum, classroom space, etc.)
  • Encourage and develop current teachers
  • Recruit and develop new teachers

 

5.  Miscellaneous

  • Preach and teach as needed
  • Pastoral visits as needed
  • Other miscellaneous things that arise will be distributed among the staff as appropriate

 

Essential characteristics include:

  • Godly character, self-discipline, and spiritual maturity
  • Strong knowledge of Scripture and doctrine
  • Effective communicator
  • Strong work ethic, team player, and a passion for ministry
