Job Description

Reports to: Senior Minister (Associate Min. in the absence of the Senior Minister)

Classification: Full Time (Minimum 40 hrs weekly)

Educational Qualifications: Minimum of Bachelor‘s degree (Master’s is an added advantage) in the field of Ministry/Christian Education, Sociology and/or Clinical Youth Counseling with extensive experience in the field of youth work.

Personal Qualifications:

  • Committed Christ-follower who feels strongly a call by God into ministry to youth.
  • Love for pre-teens/Teen youth and their families.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to build and lead volunteer adult teams for all areas of church youth ministry areas.
  • Oversee all programming and ministry for youth (grades 1-12; college). This includes coordinating Sunday morning Bible classes and Wednesday night coverage for the age spectrum of this ministry; summer camp and assisting with youth sports activities for youth grades 1-12/college.
  • Create, prepare and secure curriculum for each program and each age level in concert with the Senior Minister and other ministerial staff for each age level in the Youth Ministry Department.
  • Create environments, activities and programming for all ages in  the Youth Ministry Department that will facilitate learning and encourage spiritual growth of congregational youth
  • Recruit, train, schedule and lead teams of Youth Ministry Departmental volunteers.

Provide care for youth and their families within the church which includes hospital visits, home visits, attendance at youth’s school/community involvement and activities, and provide follow up care for all youth/families in the Youth Ministry Department as needed following hospitalization, illness, family tragedies, etc...

  • Maintain a strategy for reaching and assimilating new youth and families within the Youth Ministry Department. This outreach includes community events, church sponsored events and recreational (recreational ball games, etc.) events.
  • Plan and coordinate special Youth Ministry Departmental events, and assist other ministerial staff in their areas as time permits...

Position Summary:

The Youth Minister provides direction and oversight for The Bridge Youth Ministry at the Bridge-First Christian Church of Stockbridge (grades 1-12/college) in concert and coordination with the Senior Minister.

Qualifications:

The Youth Minister must have a love for God, a love for children and teens/ young adults, and a pastoral heart to see them grow in their relationship with Christ.

 In addition, the following are required General Qualifications:

• Meeting the 1 Timothy 3, Titus 1, and 1 Peter 5 qualifications for church leaders

• Commitment to The Bridge–First Christian Church of Stockbridge statement of faith, vision, values and beliefs.

 • Pastoral philosophy of equipping and disciplining youth under his charge.

• Commitment to a team approach to ministry including delegating responsibility to team members

• Strong teacher with a love for God’s word

 • Relational style of leadership and ministry

• Joyful spirit and good sense of humor

• Self-starter and able to work without directed supervision

• Experience in youth ministry/field of concentration.

Qualifications

The Children and Youth Minister/Pastor must have the ability and willingness to:

• Recruit, disciple, and sustain a team of volunteer leaders

 • Engage parents as vital partners

• Teach and equip youth and leaders in small and large settings

• Communicate well with parents and come along side families, especially in times of crisis

• Communicate well with Senior Minister and peer ministerial staff, Elders and community members.

 • Relate to the unique needs of children and youth in today’s culture

 Responsibilities:

• Ensure that the youth ministry is functioning in an effective, focused manner

• Recruit, train, and mobilize a ministry team of young adults for the youth ministry

• Follow through with the volunteer screening process to ensure a competent and qualified body of volunteer adults

• Submit an annual budget, with the cooperation of the “Youth Council” to the Senior Minister for preliminary review, and then be capable of presenting that budget to the church Finance Committee

 • Oversee the expenditures of the budget allocated towards the youth ministries

• Oversee fund-raising efforts for youth ministries trips

 • Develop comprehensive, well-balanced biblical instruction and programming for growth opportunities

• Assume the role as primary teacher and provide teaching opportunities to other qualified young adults

• Provide periodic retreat opportunities

• Ensure that competent young adult leadership is available, not only to supervise, but to build relationships at all youth events

• Lead annual youth missions trip when appropriate and only in support of missionaries already supported by The Bridge Missions Committee.

• Demonstrate organizational skills in implementation of ministry Equipping

• Develop a program designed to equip teens and young adult volunteers to do the work of the ministry

• Provide opportunities for student ministry teams to form

• Provide opportunities for the training and discipling of youth leaders

  Other Responsibilities:

• Participate in ministerial staff meetings weekly or when called by the Senior Minister.

• Keep Senior Minister (who will then inform Elders) and other related staff informed of “emergent situations”.

• Attend Leadership Team meetings as an active member each month and/or when requested/required

• Demonstrate capacity for planning and coordinating successful special events/retreat planning

 Miscellaneous:

 • Sunday morning platform participation; preaching a minimum of 4 times per year or when requested by the Senior Minister.

• Share general pastoral responsibilities of the ministerial team and other duties as required.

Job Title:              Children’s Ministry Director (CMD)

 

Reports to:            Parish Administrator/Rector

 

Position Status:     Part-time (approx. 8 hours per week, $15 per hour).  The CMD must be available to be on site at Christ Church from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM most Sunday mornings; the rest of the hours can be completed under a flexible work schedule on site or at home.

 

Purpose:               The CMD is responsible for teaching, providing oversight, planning and curriculum development of the children’s Sunday School program at CEC.  The purpose of this position is to teach the Holy Scriptures and to nurture the love of Christ into the hearts and minds of the children of the parish.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

 Plan and teach youth Sunday school as well as provide oversite to Sunday school volunteers.

  1. Plan annual Vacation Bible School program.
  2. Plan annual Christmas Pageant and other special youth events.
  3. Assist with Acolyte ministry.
  4. Work with Youth Director to plan family-oriented parish events.
  5. Work with Music Director to plan monthly music for worship service.

      3. Report to the Vestry liaison on status of Children’s Ministry for liaison’s report to monthly Vestry meetings.

Young Adults

  • Work with the younger ministers to give special attention to the young adults (20’s, 30’s, and 40’s) attending First Church
  • Develop ways to involve them in fellowship, spiritual growth, and service 

 

2.   Ministry Outreach

  • Oversee our current programs that address needs in our community (Manna Food Ministry, benevolence, etc.)
  • Create new ways First Church can reach out and impact our community

 

3.   Ministry Programs

  • Oversee our various Ministry Teams with the Senior Minister
  • Serve as a liaison between the Ministry Teams and the Elders and Staff
  • Seek ways to help each Ministry Team grow and improve

 

4.   Adult Education

  • Work with the Senior Minister to oversee Adult Education
  • Assist teachers of adult classes with their needs (curriculum, classroom space, etc.)
  • Encourage and develop current teachers
  • Recruit and develop new teachers

 

5.  Miscellaneous

  • Preach and teach as needed
  • Pastoral visits as needed
  • Other miscellaneous things that arise will be distributed among the staff as appropriate

New Life is a congregation of 200-250, located in Bellville, OH.  This community is a town of about 3000 people located about 7 miles south of Mansfield, OH.  Bellville is a traditional community which loves its High School sports, its annual street fair, and the feel of small town Main Street.  It is close to abundant hunting and fishing areas, snow skiing slopes, automobile racing venues, Amish communities, and cycling trails and back roads.  It also has access to all the amenities of larger cities, as it is located a 15 minute drive from Mansfield (pop 50,000) and a 45 minute drive from the state capitol of Columbus.
The church itself is a Bible believing and grace filled church.  We have a stable leadership, with currently 4 elders and 1 full time and 2 part time ministry staff.  We have a strong senior membership but also an active group of young families with children.  We currently have more elementary children than teenagers and continue reaching out to younger families.
The successful candidate for this position will have a passion for discipleship and an ability to connect to people from the Millennial generation and younger.  They will have a 4 yr degree from Bible college/university and will be hungry to learn and grow in a supporting environment.

Title:  Senior Minister

The job of the Senior Minister is a full-time position.  The Senior Minister will be under the oversight of the FCC Elders.

Role:   

The FCC Senior Minister has primary responsibility for preaching and teaching the

Word of God and to provide leadership, shepherding and vision to the Body in partnership with

Responsibilities:

A. Preaching/Worship

  • Consistently delivers easily understood, Bible-based sermons that are

  • In partnership with the Elders, adjusts to societal changes without

compromising the Christian doctrine.

C. Community and Outreach:

  • Be a visual part of the community promoting Christ and our church, helping where certain skills can make a difference and be a positive influence.
  • Carry out hospital visitation and ministry to shut-ins in partnership with the Elders.
  • Conduct baptisms, premarital counseling, weddings, and funerals. 
  • Engages and works with other ministries and organizations to serve the

Function:  The goal of the Children’s Ministry is to create and develop a family centered ministry, that leads children toward knowing Jesus Christ as their Savior.

The role of the Children’s Ministry is to help validate the importance of children both in and outside the family of God. As a result, the children, family, and volunteers, feel loved and welcomed at church, thus creating a safe environment for them to grow in their faith.

 

Responsibilities of the children’s Ministry Director:

The CMD is accountable to the current Elders, oversite from the Youth Minister and serves the church, (focusing on ages: birth through 5th grade) in the following areas:

  • Coordinating church-wide children’s activities and events, as well as events focusing on specific age groups.
  • Planning activities and events that provide the opportunity for community outreach.
  • Small Group Family Events
  • Small Group Coordination (To coincide with Adult Small Groups)
  • Manage, Research, and Overview Curriculum for Doctrinal Accuracy.
  • Execute “The Orange Mentality”
  • Weekly Updates for Parents and Providers.

Responsible for administration of preschool/ daycare program to include staffing, staff reviews, calendar establishment, establishing and maintaining work procedures and policies,  financial oversight of program reporting to business administrator, and other duties as assigned. 

 

Planning activities and events that provide the opportunity for community outreach:

These activities and events should focus on building relationships within the community.

 

Recruiting volunteers:

The recruitment of volunteers is an ongoing, process. It is to be carried out as needed, to ensure a safe and functional environment for the Children of the congregation.

 

 Training Volunteers:

Volunteers should be trained according to their area of interest, before actively serving in the various positions associated with the children’s ministry.  All volunteers working with children (in any capacity) are to have a background screening, before they begin serving.

 

Planning and implementing children’s worship services:

This is to include choosing the curriculum, adapting the curriculum to fit the timeframe available, and the age of the children who will be attending.

 

Providing opportunities for parents/caregivers to grow spiritually:

We recognize the fact that parents/caregivers have the largest impact in their children’s lives, and as such it is their responsibility to provide the majority of spiritual growth for their children through everyday life. Providing a means for the parents to grow spiritually will enable them to more effectively lead by example.

 

Providing opportunities for spiritual growth for volunteers:

Volunteer schedules should be such that volunteers are able to attend classes or worship services as desired, to ensure their continued spiritual growth, (As well as to prevent the volunteers from getting burned out.)

 

Oversee Orange teachers:

The CMD (with the input of the teachers, and approval from elders) will choose, and be responsible for ordering class curriculum; as well as ensure each class has the supplies needed for teaching.

 

Oversee Nursery/ volunteers:

The CMD is responsible for the cleanliness and function of the nurseries, and is also responsible for ensuring each nursery is adequately staffed each week.

 

Attend staff/board meetings:

As a full time staff member, the CMD is expected to be present for staff meetings, as well as board meetings, and any other meetings requested by the Leadership of the church.

 

 Other Responsibilities Assigned by Current Elders:

As with any ministry position, it is difficult to try to assume the many responsibilities that may arise, as situations change.  As it is the responsibility of the Elders to lead not only the congregation, but also the staff, it is left to their discretion, the assignment of other roles and responsibilities that may become a part of the role of the Children’s Ministry Director.
